Good Children Gallery in New Orleans, LA is pleased to announce Jose Duran: Botànica, an exhibition of new paintings by the Dominican born artist and designer. The works that make up Botánica focus on both medicinal and poisonous plants in vibrant paintings densely filled with richly saturated colors. Duran (b. 1979) researches historic forms of survival by people of color in the face of colonization and slavery, in this case flora and fauna introduced to new locations that had negative impacts, yet local healers were then able to transform into an agent of personal and cultural rejuvenation. The resultant canvases become opulent gardens of healing cultivated by native hands. This will be the artist's first solo exhibition in New Orleans.

In the back gallery Good Children Gallery presents Andrea Laborde Barbier: Womantide. Laborde Barbier (b. 1982) is a Louisiana based photographer. In Womantide she crafts a body of work which focuses on the strength, vulnerability, and adaptability of women by employing alternative photographic techniques. Using the mordancage technique traditional silver gelatin prints are introduced into a bath that releases the image from the surface to create unpredictable yet ethereal veils that ebb and flow with the water. This process in turn releases her models from a fixed state and allows them to transfigure unbound into new delicate forms.
