The Heart Travels: Chris Pavlik

We live in a world of ghosts. Ghosts are bits of history that repeat themselves, the past made present; sometimes they materialize as we watch, sometimes we just feel their cold presence around us. Some are summoned, some come unbidden. Some are as big as countries and wars, and others are so small they fit inside your heart.

Stage of the Ancients: Lynda Frese

Frese’s photographic images are captured from ancient sites ranging from pre-historic Europe, the jungles and lands of the Mayans, to Louisiana’s Gulf of Mexico, where the artist lives. Transparent layers of egg tempera paint, made with antique pigments and egg yolks from the studio environments where she is working, are painted over the printed collage images. The pigments have varying degrees of opacity or transparency and the color is suspended in a gem-like skin over the photographs. Frese's fascination with Italian pre Renaissance paintings have led her to adopt some of the palettes, panel compositions, and subject matter of these artists.
